Man UP Group: How God Makes Men

August 30th, 2018

The Fall session of Man Up Group launches on Thursday, Aug 30. We have two groups: a 7:00am group and a 7:00pm group that meet every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday of the month. This Fall, the men will be reading “How God Makes Men: Ten Epic Stories, Ten Proven Principles, One Huge Promise for Your Life” together. It is an easy read, but is provocative and speaks to the lives of 10 men in the Bible--very much like us--who experience life's heaviness and difficulties (some even tragedies), but follow through with God. They give us examples ago consider and follow as they keep their faith and press higher into who God is making them. The cost is $15 for the study materials.

"You SHOULD Ask That!" Group Discussions--Fall 2018

September 17th - September 20th, 2018

Ascent Church is gearing up for our big Kick-off Sunday and the critical series it launches: "You SHOULD Ask That"--which begins Sept 16 (9:00a & 10:30a).

There are so many questions that burrow deep inside of us and cause us to doubt, resist, or walk away from God, faith, Christianity, or church. And, frankly, at times, these questions scare religious people or churches--who respond: "You CAN'T Ask That!" Well, we think that God, the Bible, and Christianity should have something to say about these questions . . . and do! So, we built every Sunday in the Fall around the idea that "You SHOULD ask that!" And you've got to jump in if any of the following questions need speaking to in you:

Isn’t Everything Just an Opinion? (Sept 16)
How Do You Know God Exists? (Sept 23)
Religion is Bogus, Right? (Sept 30)
If God is All-Powerful and All-Loving,
Why Doesn’t He Stop Suffering? (Oct 7)
Who Gets to Be in Heaven? (Oct 14)
Is There an “Unforgiveable” Sin? (Oct 21)
Was the Bible Written so MEN Could Have Power? (Oct 28)
When’s the End of the World? (Nov 4)
Why Am I Here, Anyways? (Nov 11)
Angels and Demons . . . for Real? (Nov 25)
Can I Actually Know and Feel God? (Dec 2)

Do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings during the Fall possibly work for you to be a part of a weekly or a bi-weekly group?

The Solomon Project 2018/19

September 26th, 2018

9 months. 12 learners. A dedicated mentor. And the Scriptures.
Personal formation with the goal of living with greater wisdom.

Do you want to increase in wisdom? A person whose reflexes increasingly become like God's desires and ways? Someone who understands God, life, and the world better each day? 1 Kings 4 says "God gave Solomon very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore . . . He was wiser than anyone else . . . He composed some 3,000 proverbs and wrote 1,005 songs. He could speak with authority about all kinds of plants, from the great cedar of Lebanon to the tiny hyssop that grows from cracks in a wall. He could also speak about animals, birds, small creatures, and fish. And kings from every nation sent their ambassadors to listen to the wisdom of Solomon."

This Fall, we begin an intentional and intense discipleship with the goal of discovering God's wisdom--to not only understand THE SCRIPTURES better, but to understand LIFE more deeply. This doesn't happen by occasionally watching documentaries and just listening to someone else preach about it a couple times a month. It requires great curiosity, intense effort, and increasing faithfulness. God can only invest wisdom about the larger world into those who are learners, those who are humble, and those who are dedicated.

The Solomon Project is about pursuing this with deep-hearted, wide-eyed, and spiritually/intellectually/emotionally hungry people. With 17+ intense group sessions from Sept 18-May 19 along with a one-on-one personal discipleship each month with a mentor, and curriculum that stretches us, you cannot emerge from this year unchanged.

There is a costly investment to be a part of a Solomon group: (1) commitment to attend no fewer than 15 of 17 group sessions--which fall on 2nd & 4th Wednesdays (6:30p-8p), (2) 100% commitment to monthly one-on-one mentoring appointments, (3) commitment to read all the materials and perform the exercises, (4) faithfulness to attend no less than 28 of 36 Sunday Worship/Sermon experiences during this 9-mo season, (5) dedication to enrich the others in the Solomon Project group both relationally and intellectually, and (6) a commitment to personally develop another person in their spiritual life during the year following your time in the Solomon Project.

Deadline to register: Sept 12
First Sunday: Sept 16
First Group Session: Wednes, Sept 26 (6:30p-8p)

($100 cost covers all materials and mentoring during the 9-mo season.)
